ANC-EFF-ActionSA coalition do not appreciate sport associations

by Cllr. Wollaston Labuschagne: City of Ekurhuleni Ward 88 Councillor & & Cllr. Mike da Silva: DA City of Ekurhuleni SRAC Representative

Date: 02 September 2025
Launch: Immediate

In action to questions positioned by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to MMC for Area Services, Cllr. Bridget Thusi about the standing of lease agreements between sporting associations and the City of Ekurhuleni, the MMC suggested that the Solution Degree Agreement (SLA) which governs this procedure would be concluded by August.

This has not occur, and showing off associations continue to be in limbo.

With the corresponding oversight committees, the DA will certainly tax these departments to guarantee that this shanty town is concluded as soon as possible.

From the now obsolete Germiston Golf links to the shabby Pam Edge stadium– and numerous various other collapsing sporting activity centers across the district, and the hesitation to participate in reasonable lease arrangements with sport associations, this end ofthe world union does not identify the worth of sporting activity.

The majority of, otherwise all showing off organizations have to carry the economic expenses of keeping facilities– and while numerous are willing to do so, it is not a feasible version if there is no guaranty from the municipality regarding whether they will be granted a legally binding lease.

Both the departments of Sports, Leisure, Arts and Society (SRAC) and Property need to prioritise the finalisation of the lengthy overdue run-down neighborhood to ensure that sporting activities in the Ekurhuleni do not disappear.

Sport and sporting organizations are an indispensable part of uplifting communities.

The DA will certainly not permit this falling short ANC-EFF-ActionSA union to refute our locals access to sporting organizations and facilities.
